Someone once wrote me telling how they had difficulty dealing with problems. He said he believed in a “Higher Power”. My response was that it takes more than that to successfully wage the battles of life. I asked him if he had a pocketknife or full artillery. To have the full artillery at your disposal to fight the battles of life, it takes a personal relationship with God through Jesus Christ. That relationship has to come first.

First Comes the Relationship

God is a personal God and takes a personal interest in all of us. He sets certain priorities however. The first is that we have a personal relationship with Him. There is a barrier which must be removed before that can happen and Jesus Christ died to eliminate that barrier which are our sins. No one wants to accept the fact that we all have committed sins. A lot of people don’t want to admit they have cancer either, but that doesn’t change the facts.

Everything has been done for you to have a personal relationship with God and allow him to show you the way to go in life. All you have to do is accept the payment Christ made when He died for your sins. Then you have a relationship with Him and have certain resources to guide and help you.

People say that they believe in a Higher Power, but for many people, the concept of a “higher power” is probably somewhat fuzzy in their minds.

Maybe you have heard all this about Jesus Christ, but are not sure you believe it. There is nothing wrong with honest doubt. Jesus even knew that. That is why he said that if you are willing to accept him. he would give you the faith to believe it. You don’t even have to “try” to believe. Just be willing to accept it. If you do, then faith will come later.

Then Comes the Help and Weapons

Both Christians and non-Christians have trials and battles in life. There is no way around that fact. Look at it this way, would you rather go into battle armed only with a pocket knife or would you rather go into battle with modern weapons and a full artillery backing you up? If you don’t have Christ, you’ve only got a pocket knife right now.

Christians have resources to help them make the right choices in life and wage the battles successfully. That does not mean we don’t make mistakes. It doesn’t mean we always use the resources available. However we do have resources others do not. That is why I mentioned earlier that the first priority was a personal relationship with God. God has a plan for everyone including you. The first step is this relationship however.
